Bourne?

Now everyone here knows how I enjoy a good argument. We also know I am usually right. I'm going to throw a new stake in the ground for your entertainment.

Is there any better action hero than Jason Bourne?
Is there any better trilogy than The Bourne Series?

Now I don't consider myself a cinenamtic like a few bloggers here do, but I can't think of a trilogy that is better. If you have one, lets hear it.

There have been numberous action heroes that I have enjoyed. Many of their characters have a fairy tale side to them. This in a way ruins the excitement of their character. Come on, do we really think Rambo could single handedly take out the Russian's and some Southeast Asian Country.

You see where I am going with this. I can be swayed, but boy do I enjoy J Bo. Whatcha ya got?

Maybe this will lead to another list, but I can honestly say I enjoy the Bourne series. Whether it's the greatest trilogy is quite a stretch (ummm...The Godfather), but the way in which movies are made nowadays helps this series out quite a bit. The action sequences are choppy, much like one feels when they are actually in fight. The handheld camera adds to this as it takes you to the perspective of the people involved in the action. Add some cool music to the sequence and you have yourself a pretty good film.

Like Nate, when reading Rip's post I, too, was thinking THE GODFATHER. Don't get me wrong, the Bourne series is very entertaining, but all 3 seem to be very similar. So much so, I think the 4th is going to be called Bourne Redundancy.

Willl there be a fourth? Iu assumed that the third was the last. I know that the author died a while back and I thought I heard that this was the last of the Jason Bourne series. However Ian Fleming died too and that didn't stop the studios from making more Bond films.

I agree that Bourne has been good but would have to agree with Nate and Seddy that the Godfather trilogy is the best....the first and the second are two of the best movies ever. As for action films I always liked the Die Hard series and the John McClain character played by Bruce Willis.

The problem with Die Hard is that in the first movie he was this regular cop who was put into a bad situtaion that he had to get himself out of, and you were faced with the possibility that he might die or that others around him could be killed as the film developed. By the time we get to Live Free or Die Hard he's flying helicopters, fighting a fighter jet and has the ears of top national security people. Then in the end he does something completely unbeliveable to kill the bad guy (sorry about the spoiler, but you could probably guess that anyway).

Yes, Godfather 1 & 2 are great movies, but 3 is terrible. The context I was looking for is that all 3 films are great flicks, not two of them are so good that it doesn't matter how bad the 3rd was turned out.

Has dying stopped anything succesful from continuing?

I agree that Die Hard 2007 was way over the top and not even believable especially the end but I still think the films are good considering the genre (and yes the first one like most pre-sequel films is by far the best one- maybe one of the best action films of all time). I am of the opinion that most action films are pretty bad and out of them come a handful of good choices. I mean the first Lethal Weapon was good and I think so was the second, but after that the series and the same material got old. I think the first Rambo was pretty good because it was new and the character somewhat believable, then this distorted superhero was developed in the second movie which made it laughable. I thought the first Matrix was great and the following two movies complete garbage as was the first movie Alien and Predator....not so fond of the crap to follow. What about the first two Terminator movies....I thought both of those movies were good. Never did see the third one, by the way I see Fox has a Terminator series coming to TV soon not sure I like the thought of that. Also troubling is the thought of a possible revised Knight Rider on the big screen and rumors of a possible A-Team movie. I hear Ice Cube is in talks to play BA the role made famous by Mr. T which makes me cringe at least they could have got someone a less dough boy for the role (think Ving Rhames).

Sorry Rip, others...

Star Wars (original unenhanced) New Hope, Empire and Return of the Jedi is the greatest trilogy of all time.
